Outreach Work

Background to Outreach Programmes

For the past twenty one years, the Ulster Youth Orchestra has offered the highest level of orchestral training, not otherwise available in Northern Ireland. The organisation affords the unique opportunity for young people to work in a residential setting with professors from top UK music colleges, principal players in the major UK orchestras and professional conductors and soloists. The geographical isolation of Northern Ireland can act as a barrier for promising young musicians who wish to pursue a professional career in music and simply donít know where to start.

However, places on our courses are limited, approximately 90 young people every year. Due to the high demand for these places the Orchestra embarked on a series of Outreach events in 2007. These events aimed to increase access to our team of exceptional tutors and broaden the regional coverage of the Orchestra. These events have proven a huge success and we will continue to produce them for young musicians.
