How To Join
General Information about our audition requirements is given below:
Applications are invited from instrumentalists aged between 14 and 23 on 31st July 2013. You should be of a standard equivalent to Grade VII/VIII Associated Board. Promising players who have not yet reached this standard are also encouraged to apply. Applications are particularly welcome from viola, double bass, french horn, oboe and bassoon players.
Applications will be accepted from young musicians born, resident or studying in Northern Ireland, however, consideration will be give to other applicants at the discretion of the board to ensure the necessary orchestral balance.
You will be required to play two contrasting pieces of your choice (not two movements from the same piece). Percussionists will be required to have experience on side drum, timpani and xylophone and should prepare one piece for each of these instruments. An accompanist will not be provided, however, we are happy for you to play one or both of your pieces unaccompanied. You will be required to sight-read from orchestral works and you will also be sent orchestral excerpts to prepare in advance. Please note that sight-reading and orchestral excerpts will carry a significant weighting in the overall marking scheme.
