UYO Wind Band Day Extravaganza

A Wind Band Day Extravaganza in association with the NEELB and BELB Music Services took place on Saturday, 5 April 2014 from 1.30pm - 7.00pm in NEELB Antrim Board Centre, Antrim.  180 young musicians aged 10 – 18 attended this special day of rehearsals led by two of the biggest names in the professional brass band world in England, Anna Hughes- Williams and Mike Fowles.
The day opened with a combined group session of sequential rhythmic clapping and singing, all designed to waken everyone up and prepare the members of the junior and senior wind bands for the individual band rehearsals to follow.
During the afternoon, each group studied its own set repertoire, which included, Rockin Roll Band, Pirates of the Caribbean and a piece that both bands would play together, The Young Amadeus.
The positive response and huge interest in this very successful event exceeded UYO’s expectations, with the result that two (instead of one) informal concerts had to be given to the large audience of parents, brothers and sisters, and grandparents who arrived at 6.15pm.
